CROUSE FAMILY UPDATE (May 2005)

Thanks for praying for us this past month.  It was busy but fruitful, and this month promises to be the same as we prepare for departure for home assignment.

We don’t host many work teams, but we were very proud to host the recent team of 18 that came to clean up the mission house near Gonaives that was damaged by the flood back in September.  The team consisted of people from 4 Free Methodist churches.  It was amazing to see how God chose each person with their particular knowledge and skills so that together a wide variety of projects were completed. The team’s attitude of servanthood was an example to all.  You can read more about their trip at:  http://www.gowandafmc.org/.  The clean up of the mission house was a great encouragement to the Free Methodist church leaders who now can use the house for meetings, workshops, etc.  A great highlight was seeing members of the team meet 18 of the children they have a part in sponsoring.  Becky was also able to make some school visits and have a planning time with part of her staff while we were there.

The meeting with the school directors on April 29th went well.  Fellow missionary Gail Ennis wasn’t able to participate because of illness, but the teacher trainers and Becky had a good opportunity to share teacher training plans with the school directors.  There was good attendance despite recent violent incidents in the city, and the directors were very receptive and supportive of the plans.  Please pray for Becky as she tries to wrap up all the details for the teacher training program before we leave.  Also, please pray for the teacher trainers, schools supervisors and directors as they implement the new plans this summer and fall.

Today Area Director David Roller and his wife Yvonne arrived for 2 1/2 weeks.  They are taking a crash course in Creole and getting to know the country better as it is considerably different from the Spanish speaking nations where Free Methodists work in Latin America.  David Gregory, who once stayed with us at Mapou for a week as a teen and is now working in Chile in landscaping, will be coming during their visit.  He and J.R. will take a trip to Mapou next week to assess water flow issues and see if any changes can be implemented in building or drainage design to help minimize damage in a possible future flood.

Our departure from Haiti for home assignment begins in about 3 weeks (May 26). There has been a virus going around and it has had us down.  We need strength to persevere with remaining details here and prepare for our speaking engagements in the States.

Right before our scheduled departure J.R. will be going to the World Bank in Washington, D.C. to co-present a grant proposal for solar bakeries.  Please pray for wisdom in planning and calmness during the judging and for God’s will concerning a final decision.

As this is getting rather long, we’ll send one more e-mail before we go with our speaking schedule.  Hopefully, we’ll get to see many of you while we are Stateside.  Thanks for your prayers for us during this busy transition time.

Blessings,

J.R., Becky, and Marissa Crouse
