“I’m as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a
room full of rocking chairs.” My friend Phil
said this every time we got to a critical
point in a project. We are coming to that
critical time of the year when we find out
if year end giving will be enough to balance
our budget. Although we expend money evenly
throughout the year, we receive as much as
28% of our income in December. In the
corporate world, that would be reason enough
to be as nervous as a “long-tailed cat," but
in our business, the business of changing
lives for Jesus, it is time for prayer for
God’s provision to be made through His
people.
Please pray for our missionaries and the
funding needed to provide for their
ministries this year. If you want to know
more specifically how you can help, see the
wmc giving section of this newsletter.
January 16, 2007, is the deadline for 2006
conference giving to be sent to the Free
Methodist World Ministries Center. Please
check with your conference regarding the
deadline for local church giving to reach
your conference treasurer.

Development

new missionary support |
 |
|
Almost there ... Michael and
Carrie Hamley are SO close to having
raised the necessary prayer and
financial support to be released for
ministry in Italy. Pray for them as
they raise the remaining $8,000 in
annual support and verify all
commitments made by churches and
individuals.

country shares |
 |
|
In the midst of pressing social
and economic needs, the Free
Methodist Church in Hungary is
attempting to share the hope and
healing that is found through Jesus
Christ. By sponsoring Hungary
country shares, you can be a part of
discipling a new generation of
believers in that country.
Hungary is just one of 28 country
share budgets, totaling $270,710,
that remain unfunded for 2006.

uncommitted shares.

"... we witnessed the
consequences of extreme poverty -
illnesses, hunger, and [lack of]
many things we take for granted such
as: clean, running water, sanitation
systems, reliable electricity ..."
These are the words John and Melinda
Henry, newly- appointed missionaries
to Liberia, used to describe their
recent travels to Africa.

Mike Reynen has first-hand
knowledge of missions. He and his
wife, Vickie, served as FM
missionaries to Nigeria and Japan.
Mike now pastors the Indianapolis,
John Wesley FMC and serves as the
Wabash Conference Missions Mobilizer.
Vickie is the placement advisor for
VISA Ministries.

Michael Long is thankful for
healing as he recovers from a bike
accident in Greece. Pray for a
complete recovery by the time his
family begins home assignment in
January and February 2007. They will
be visiting churches in their
supporting conferences, South
Atlantic and Wabash.

international missionaries |

Sergio and Mary Loyola are in
their late 50's, a time when they
could be forgiven if they said it
was time to enjoy their
grandchildren and tend to their
hobbies. Instead, they choose to
serve the people of Bolivia at a
time when poverty and suffering is
deepening.

Two missionary couples, Gregg and
Gail Ennis and Jack and Jeanne Munos,
have returned to Haiti. They are
currently stationed at Dessalines.
Both couples already have many
moving, encouraging and harrowing
stories to share with you.

newsletters.
"As we prepared to begin our
support raising adventure, some told
us 'you won’t like it. It is the
least favorite part of the process.'
Well, Diane and I must be weird
(some of you knew that) but we are
LOVING IT, going to churches and
seeing what God is doing in and
through them already." Al and Diane
Mellinger have also found a uniquely
sweet way to help raise their
support funds.

unique plan.
New missionaries, Josef and
Lynette Sykora, (and their luggage)
have arrived in Slovakia. They have
already been approved for residency
permits.

mission mobilization |
 |
|
Here are some ideas for
mobilizing your church toward
international ministry:
- Research, study and learn about
the area of the world God puts on
your heart (or the local missions
committee suggests);
- Develop a culture and system that
challenges young people ...
- Rev. Eric Spangler, Director of
Mobilization

"We’ve just finished our fall
MELT and BOA meetings, and I want to
give you a report on our actions.
God met us powerfully. The issues we
faced were extremely important and
some were quite difficult. The
spirit in our leadership team was
stellar – we had a sense the Lord
was definitely leading us."

mobilizer tip |

Take a sneak peek at the "Enter
Their World" DVD, which is being
mailed to each U.S. Free Methodist
church later this month. The DVD has
eight segments, plus two bonus
segments from International Child
Care Ministries. Filmed on location
in Greece, Spain, Mexico City and
Nicaragua, the segments will give
you a compelling glimpse into
worldwide Free Methodist ministries.
Dr. Brown's inspiring
presentation to the East Michigan
Annual Conference this last summer
was videotaped and is now available
on DVD. (We cannot post this offer
on the web because some of his
stories tell about FM work in
creative access areas.) If you would
like a free copy to show in your
church, please e-mail your request
to JudyL@fmcna.org.

wmc giving
|
|
|
|
Our UMC giving through October 2006
is about $80,000 ahead of last year.
Praise the Lord! The other side of
this story is that our 2006 budget
is about $288,000 higher than last
year. To meet this year’s budget, we
will need an extra dose of God’s
provision. Our best estimates show
that we will need about $200,000
more this December than we received
in December 2005. That’s about $200
per church. We are looking to our
local church mobilizers to help us
communicate this need to our people.

conference giving. |
