McGinnis Missions Update
October 2007

What's been going on?

*Max received a special invitation to attend a meeting of the Chilean Congress.  At this particular session, the issue of how sex education should be presented in the Chilean education system was addressed and discussed at length.

*Max attended the annual pastors' retreat that was held in Chilln (6 hours south).

*We had the opportunity to share a special "closing-one-chapter-and opening-another" time with David and Yvonne Roller (previously our Area Director and now newly appointed Bishop) during their return visit to pack up their belongings and have them sent to their new home in Maryland.

*Kristin attended a children's teacher workshop that was led by FM missionary, Kay Stotts, and her Chilean teaching assistant, Elizabeth (Eli).

*We attended a dinner at ourLa Gran Comisin FMC that helped to raise money for women that want to attend the annual women's retreat this weekend.

*Kristin has started another weekly, English-speaking Bible study. (Click here to see Bible study material.)

*We attended a joint, multi-denominational, Sunday worship service that was held in honor of their Independence Day, Sept. 18th.

*We all enjoyed a week off of school (students and teachers)! (Click here to read more about it and see some pictures.)

Praises!

*We had a wonderful time of relaxation and refreshment as a family during school break.

*Our Comunidad Vida and La Gran Comisin FMCs have seen two good months of worship attendance growth!

*Spring has arrived!

 

Prayer Requests

*Please pray for the women's retreat that will take place here in Santiago this coming weekend (October 5-7).

*Please pray for the overall funding issues that Free Methodist World Missions (FMWM) is facing at this time.

*Please pray for traveling safety for Max as he flies to and from the United States (October 17-23) to speak at the special mission banquets that weekend.

Here is his itinerary:

Wed. (17th) PM - fly out of Santiago

Thurs. (18th) AM -arrive in Buffalo, NY

Friday (19th) PM -speak at the missions banquet at our Oil City FMC (Oil City, PA)

Saturday (20th) PM -share a brief missions update in the worship service at our Northgate FMC (Batavia, NY)

Sunday (21st) AM -share a brief missions update in the worship service(s) at Northgate

PM - speak at the missions banquet at our Pearce Memorial FMC (North Chili, NY)

Monday (22nd) PM - fly back to Santiago

Tuesday (23rd) AM - come home to his family!!!!


Special Announcement!!

*We are coming back for our 1st home assignment this winter! In next month's newsletter, we will be able to give you our detailed schedule of events for that time. We are hoping to be able to visit many, if not all, of our partner FM churches (those that support us financially from their budgets) as well as meet up with many of you - our individual partners.  We have all been counting down the days and are REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone again!!
