Seeking God in Europe
Josef and Lynette Sykora

Mission Update for June 2006

We write this letter from Kentucky, as we close things out on the Kentucky chapter of our lives and make our final move to New York for the summer. Many people ask, “So when are you going to Europe?” And the answer to that question is, “When God provides the support we need to be able to go,” but we truly hope it is by September ’06, which is courageous thinking!

 Graduation
Praise the Lord, we graduated! It was just a few weeks ago, but seems distant already, that both Josef and I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary. Lynette’s parents were with us to celebrate the day, as were friends Beth Cullison from Indy, and Ron from Josef’s work place (whom we thank for this grad photo!). We missed our Czech family on this day, but know they were with us in spirit and we will be with them soon. We will miss our Kentucky friends very much! We are so thankful to our church friends & family who helped to support us in prayer and financially during our time in seminary.

 Vacation
Oh what a gift vacations are! After moving most of our stuff to NY, we headed off to Florida for a week of vacation.  Thank you to friends in KY and my brother Scott and parents Ron & Georgie for helping us pack and unpack. We were in Tampa, at a guest house provided by friends Jim & Beth, who are part of a church that sends mission teams to Brno Czech Republic every year (Josef’s home town)! They are generous people in many ways, and let us return to our honeymoon spot for another vacation. We enjoyed the lake where they live and the beaches of the gulf and many exotic animals and plants of Florida. We spotted an owl, osprey, hawks, armadillos, a rattle snake, pelicans, herons and a dolphin!

 Commissioning
During the 2006 Genesee/Susquehanna Annual conference, Josef and I were commissioned as FM Missionaries, which was truly an honor. We were humbly surprised by the warm reception we received from the pastors and delegates at the conference. As a result, we have already booked most of our summer speaking engagements. We look forward to visiting these churches and camps and encouraging mission involvement as we have opportunity. One thought from this time was a prayer for courage, and as my Uncle Bill said, that we would have courage to look at the big picture because the other pictures fade.

 Summer Plans
Thank you, to Park Ridge, Pearce Memorial and Wilmore FMC, the churches who have given us opportunities to share about our mission. And thank you to those who have already signed up to pray for us and give financial support. We are off to a good start! It is amazing to be reminded of people who have prayed faithfully and to also receive commitments from friends and family who promise to pray and give. We praise God for this and hope to serve Him, and you all, faithfully.
