WILKINS FAMILY UPDATE (April 2005)

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope you are enjoying the Spring. Check out this Easter Bonnet will you. It was all Yuko's doing. Poor fella.
We are all doing fine. We keep Caleb in an air conditioned room most of the time as he has had rashes and cradle cap. It shows he is inventive like his dad, because he doesn't even have a cradle. He was attacked by ants the other day, they were drawn to some milk he'd lost when we burped him. He keeps us busy and happy. He has had a second set of immunizations, and hopefully will soon receive his American passport. He is a treasure. He seldom sleeps. Yuko and I celebrate when he does. Last night he almost fell asleep and King George woke him--twice!! That lizard's days are numbered!

Speaking of lizards 'n stuff, Yuko let out a shriek the other day when she went to take a shower, and discovered a frog claiming her turf. It gets worse. Later she found one in the toilet. I'm not talkin' your cute little pond frog here. These are the rivals of the jumping frogs of Calaveras County! Trying to catch them was a scream--especially for Yuko. They can climb walls. It's all in the suction cups. For a guy it was great. Girls mess things up.

We had a joint baptism service on Easter. Suong and Kampong Cham participated. Five folks in all were baptized. Several got dry feet before hand, but I figure that is okay. We have had people participate and not really understand the commitment they were making. I sprinkled the candidates this time because the water has so many beasties floating about, it is best to limit one's contact as much as possible. We had a good sized audience from the neighborhood. There is a Bible fund that provides us with free Bibles, so each person
received a beautiful, large Bible.

Last month I participated in a two week seminar called Community Health Education. It is a development plan that involves a community, and helps us establish relationships in a village. It nearly always has the result of a local church being established in addition to the health conditions of the area improving.

Next month we hope to start the Theological Education Extension in Kampong Cham and Suong. It is a Bible Training course designed to train a person for years. Those who enter ministry receive a total refund. Lay leaders pay only half. The leader is a facilitator not a lecturer. One needn't wait to complete the course before receiving a ministerial appointment. This month is Khmer New Year so it is difficult to start anything new during the celebration.

Next month we hope to begin a Khmer class for local boys who don't go to school. They collect garbage to earn money. I found a teacher for them. I just need to get the boys here and talk to some of their families about our plan. The class will only be for an hour during lunch so that it won't disrupt their livelihood. We'll give them a
snack after class.

Next week is our Young People's Camp. We hope to have two-hundred in attendance. Kampong Cham is sending seven, and Suong, four. It is blisteringly hot here. I've felt nauseous on a few occasions, but we're so happy to be here. Oh yes, our Asian Director, Dave Yardy, will be here in a few months and we will talk with him about buying a location for a church. The place we are looking at is very close to us. This is a prayer request.

Once again, have a wonderful Spring. I put a picture of Sakura (cherry blossoms) in the kitchen for Yuko, she misses the Cherry Blossom Festival of Japan. I'm thinking of Daffodils and Crocus (Crocii?).

These are great days to be in His service. Thanks for your love, prayers, and support.

Affectionately, the Wilkins
