WILKINS FAMILY UPDATE (August 2005)

Dear Friends and Family,

How was that Fourth of July? We're looking forward to having a bar-b-que in the USA someday, and going to Disneyland with Caleb. Any volunteers?

Below is a picture of our Sunday School group. We move the children into a room if it starts raining, but then they are closer to the worship hall and it gets noisy. This is a small group, usually it is larger. I actually try to limit the size for the sake of the teachers. At our church meeting last month we made a schedule so the responsibilities are shared. The game they had this week was taking banana leaves and using the stems like gutters to fill a cup with water. Lots of giggles.

This is part of the Development Group. They decided they wanted to sing a song at the baptism. This is very good because Yuko has used singing a solo as punishment for making sewing mistakes. More giggles. They have a Bible study every time they meet. Last week they wanted to meet every day except Sunday to finish by their deadline. One day Yuko stayed upstairs during part of their work time. When she went downstairs, the girls and ladies had already prepared for the Bible study. They are almost finished the Gospel according to Mark. Every
week Yuko comes to me and says, "so and so prayed today for the first time." There are many new words needed to pray, words only used in regard to the king or God. As for work, we've received a lot of orders for the wallets and passport cases.

We had the Church of Phnom Penh come visit. Eighty-two people made the trip. After the service and baptism we all ate together. We had three from Kampong Cham get baptized, Sratov, Liang Ahn, and Jeung Li. There were six from Phnom Penh. Each one received a large Bible.

This couple framing my sweethearts is the Yardy family, our Asia Mission Directors. You couldn't ask for better bosses. We stayed behind and talked while the rest of the group went to see the rubber plantations. The Yardys just moved from the Philippines to Bangkok. We talked about our work here and the future of the mission. I forgot to mention, the elephant carrying our drinks in the bottom right is our pet, Hannibal. Being made of ceramic he is no trouble at all.

The school and development projects are going well. We are enjoying the work. We were praying about moving to Phnom Penh because of the baby, but decided to put it off for now. We both love Kampong Cham, we just thought about being closer to the doctor. Please pray for safety and good health for Caleb. I had a rash this last week. Yuko said it was some kind of herpes. It's getting better now. Another prayer request is for the man whose home we meet in at Suong. He has been gone for three weeks now. He left his two children and wife without any money. Please pray for Wi, Ti, David, and Ruhtanah. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers, too. We are convinced they are effectual. The Lord hold you close.

Love, Chris Yuko, and Caleb
