WILKINS FAMILY UPDATE (September 2005)

Dear Friends and family,

Is it another month already? Amazing! This past month we had children's camp for over a hundred children. We had twenty-five staff, five of whom came from the Seattle Pacific Conference. They are in the bottom picture. You can see a tiny Caleb in Yuko's arms in this crowd below. We are by the gate. The camp was for four days and was a glorious success. In fact, maybe too successful, if that is possible. Today as I went by the river to pick up children for Khmer school, one stop near the bridge had no comers. Usually I get the biggest draw from this group. I don't know why. Hopefully it won't be a pattern. We'll see tomorrow. The children love Christian songs, and go home to their little village or enclave singing. Sometimes this can lead to a work being cut short. Please keep the school for children in your prayers. We are having a party tomorrow night for our local folks who helped at camp, and for three young men who participated in a work-evangelism project for six weeks this summer.

You are probably wondering if this is an entry for the Liar's Club. Well, this is actually a good bad thing. I know scripture says: "Woe unto those who call good, evil, and evil, good," so let me explain. The bad part is that this bottle is supposed to be the blood of a sacrifice. It is actually colored water. The idea is that the blood will scare away demons. People are in fear of the spirit realm. The good part is, that with a little modification, this is a Biblical analogy, i.e., something in culture that corresponds to something in scripture. This presents an opportunity to bring the Bible closer to home. A few doors down we stopped to give the family a little printed
Christian message. The woman there had a type of cataract for six years. She believes that when she buried her father he was not satisfied with the funeral and from beyond the grave has made her blind. We shared with her from the Gospels and the Book of Acts about deliverance from such things, but she showed no real interest.

This smiling bunch is the Snohomish Team. What's a Snohomish you ask? Well, from first impressions it seems to a young believer filled with love for God and Man. Please send more.

We also had a visit from Art and Sylvia Brown, and Matt Whitehead, the Superintendent of the Pacific Northwest Conference. We had a glorious time. Matt and I enjoyed singing musical numbers. I'm not sure everyone else enjoyed themselves as we did. All in all it was a splendiferous, hectic, blessed of God month. Your prayers helped carry us through. Thank you so much, and thank you for letting us be your representatives in the Lord's work here.

Love, Chris, Yuko, and Caleb

Ps. One of our young men, Perah, from the House of Love Childcare facility had a motorcycle accident. He has a lot of blood in the brain and does not recognize people. I went to the hospital and met his family. Also, I met Aaron this past week, the young brother of the two girls killed on New Years day. His father has a new wife and no relationship with his son now. Aaron is without the funds to continue his education, and he is very lonely. Please pray for these two young men.
